Location: Boardwalk Meander Estate Pretoria East
Designed for entertaining and also to capitalize on the magnificant view down towards a man made lake in this upmarket estate in the eastern suburbs of Pretoria it made sense to focus all the living areas around a raised rim-flow pool deck area and open air boma to take advantage of the views.
The steep incline of the site made it possible to provide floating balconies to both the ground and first floor living areas and bedrooms on the northern facade giving one a sense of high elevation and stature above all its surrroundings and the lake down below at the foot of the site.
Open plan living spaces consisting of a large dining area, open plan kitchen with hidden scullery, private family room, bar / games room as well as a guest suite connected to one another on the ground floor are divided into two 'wings' married together in the centre by a large indoor covered patio leading down onto a raised infinity pool deck terrace with a floating staircase alongside descending down towards the open-air boma and lush garden court below.
For maximum privacy from the living and entertainment spaces all the private en-suite family bedrooms are concentrated on the first floor level each with thier own balcony including a private study and a large tv room space for intimate family time during the cold winter months leading out onto a sparse balcony to take in the view of the estate.
All living room areas on both ground and the upper floor boast with their own warming gas fireplaces making for extra cosy living.
The architectural language follows a modern barn style aesthetic accentuated with high pitch glazed gables with powder coated steel framing, vertical metal cladding facades and rustic stonework feature elements softened by smooth plastered walls on the exterior.
