Project Area: 285 m2
Location: Highlands Estate Pretoria East
Surrounded by more traditional styled homes in an estate where the contemporary architecture breaks away and stands alone in it's immediate surrounding but not imposing itself by any means onto the neighbourhood the smooth monolithic series of concrete cubes forming the sleeping arrangments to the upper level seems to straddle atop the rustic packed stone walls and housing the open living arrangement, adjacent utility area and private study / guest suite to the lower level of this modern home.
The inter connection between the indoor and outdoor is apparent as it seemingly blurrs as you move through the merged open living space onto the patio terrace and garden courtyard with timber decking pool area with seemless ease.
High volume glazing is utilized throughout allowing an abundance of natural ambient light into all interior living spaces. The arhitecture is kept minimal with simple clean lines and shapes. Materials on the exterior facade such as the concrete tectonics and natural stone walls are mostly in their natural raw form complimented by smooth plastered elements kept to a minimum and a maintenance free vertically metal clad covered double vehicle parking garage.
With limited buildable site area the challenge was to create a home consisting of three family bedrooms, study / tv room area, guest / study suite, large living space with outdoor patio plus pool deck, utility area and two car garage with outside amenaty that defies the norm of the need for a larger residence to accommodate a family of four comfortably in this modern day life.
